Best Fur Forward: Dr Tanya’s Story
I’m Dr Tanya Phillips, a Sydney veterinarian, foster carer, and lifelong cat mum. Best Fur Forward didn’t start in a boardroom. It began in my garage in my living room with two pregnant rescue cats and 13 kittens, a mountain of dirty trays, and a spreadsheet of bad litter reviews.
Fostering that many rescues at one time really opened my eyes to how smelly, wasteful, and unhealthy traditional litters really are. As a vet and foster carer, I became frustrated by all the cat litter on the market. Most of them were dusty, full of chemicals, and ended up in a landfill. So, I rolled up my sleeves and created my own. One that kept pets safe, homes fresh, and the planet in mind.
I started experimenting, determined to create a sustainable, safe, and effective alternative. That journey led to MATCHA, Australia’s only vet-developed, tofu-based cat litter. Made from upcycled tofu and green tea byproducts, it’s 100% plant-based, biodegradable, and packaged in certified home compostable bags. It’s gentle on paws, tough on odours, and better for the planet.
Through Best Fur Forward, I am on a mission to create cleaner trays, happier cats, and a healthier planet. And it all starts with MATCHA.
