FAQs

What makes MATCHA different from other cat litters?

MATCHA is Australia’s first vet-developed natural cat litter made from upcycled tofu and green tea byproducts. Unlike clay litters that are strip-mined and dusty, or synthetic crystal litters made with chemicals,

MATCHA is made from upcycled tofu and green tea byproducts, giving waste a second life.

It’s lightweight, dust-free and low-tracking, so there’s less mess around the house. Its fine, soft texture is gentle on sensitive paws, while its fast-clumping action locks in moisture and odour naturally — no artificial fragrances or additives required. Plus, it’s 100% compostable including the packaging, so it’s better for the planet too.

What is your cat litter made from?

MATCHA litter is made from upcycled tofu and green tea fibres, waste from human food production that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. It has been lab-tested for safety and is safe for kittens.

Independently lab-tested to rule out any toxic contaminants or harmful chemicals. Each 4.7kg bag contains just 0.5% caffeine, so if your cat happens to nibble a pellet or two, it’s completely safe with virtually no trace exposure. Though we do not recommend allowing any cat or kitten to ingest MATCHA cat litter. If this occurs or you have any concerns, please seek advice from your Veterinarian.

Is MATCHA safe for my cat and my family?

Yes! MATCHA is dust-free, silica-free, and made with food-grade ingredients, making it gentle on sensitive paws, lungs, and homes. It’s safe for cats, kids, and anyone handling the litter.

How long does one bag of MATCHA last?

One 4.7kg bag fills up to three trays and can last up to 2 months in a single-cat household. For multi-cat homes, it typically fills 2–3 litter trays and lasts around 3–4 weeks, depending on how many trays you scoop and how often.

With MATCHA, there’s no need to fully empty the litter tray every few days. Just scoop out the clumps and poop daily, and you’re good to go. A full tray refresh? Only every 4 weeks (or even longer!) saving you time, mess, and stress.

And for those planning ahead, 2 or 3 month subscription delivery options help reduce unnecessary courier trips, meaning less energy used, fewer emissions, and a smarter way to care for your cat (and the planet).

Can I compost MATCHA cat litter at home?

Absolutely! MATCHA and its packaging are certified home-compostable. Only compost pee clumps and the packaging, never poo. Remove any solid waste first, then add the used litter to your compost bin or pile. Over time, it will safely break down into garden-friendly material. Don’t have room for composting?
