How to Use MATCHA Clumping Cat Litter and why it changes everything
Welcome to the clean side. As a Vet, foster carer, and lifelong cat mum, I created this MATCHA tofu litter to make life easier for you, your cat, and your home. Here’s how it works, how to use it properly, and how to help your cat transition with confidence and care.
What is MATCHA tofu litter, and how does it work?
MATCHA is a plant based, low dust, high performance alternative to traditional clay, crystal, and paper litters. Made from renewable soy fibres and green tea byproducts, it forms tight clumps that help lock in odour and reduce mess, without the heaviness, waste, or daily frustration of conventional litter.
- Fast clumping for easy scooping and a cleaner tray
- Low tracking for less mess through the home
- No added fragrance and no dust clouds
- Lightweight and easy to carry
- Home compostable packaging
- Gentle under paw, including for more sensitive cats
How to use MATCHA litter
-
Fill the tray
Add around 8 to 10 cm of fresh MATCHA litter to a clean tray. This depth helps the litter clump properly, absorb effectively, and stay fresher for longer. -
Scoop daily
Remove clumps each day to keep the tray clean and inviting. You can flush 1 to 2 urine clumps at a time, depending on your plumbing and local council guidance.Important: Never flush cat poo. Always dispose of solids in the bin. -
Top up regularly
Add more litter as needed so the tray stays at the ideal depth. This is one of the simplest ways to maintain strong clumping and better odour control. -
Refresh the tray monthly
Fully empty, wash, and refill the tray every 4 weeks for best performance.
One 4.7kg bag can last up to 8 weeks for one cat when maintained properly.
How to transition your cat
Cats are wonderfully individual, and when it comes to litter, we always respect their timing. Some cats will switch within a few days. Others may prefer a slower transition over several weeks. Both are completely normal.
The goal is not to rush them. The goal is to help them feel safe, comfortable, and in control of the change. Go at your cat’s pace and let them guide you.
If you have more than one litter tray, a great approach is to fully change the least used tray to MATCHA and let your cat choose. Cats are very good at telling us what they prefer.
Step 1
Start with a light sprinkle of MATCHA over your cat’s existing litter so the scent and texture feel familiar without changing too much at once.
Step 2
Move to a blend of around 25% MATCHA and 75% current litter. Continue scooping as normal and keep the tray in the same location.
Step 3
Increase to a 50/50 mix. If your cat seems comfortable, you can gradually shift to 75% MATCHA during this stage.
Step 4
Transition fully to a clean tray of MATCHA when your cat is ready. Some cats get there quickly. Others prefer a slower path. Both are perfectly okay.
Pro tip: If you have space for two trays, place them side by side during the transition and let your cat choose. Choice often makes change feel easier. Check out our Instagram reels about Vet’s guide to transitioning to a new litter in 7 days, without stress.
Why it’s worth the switch
MATCHA helps reduce smell, mess, and daily tray stress while making litter changes feel lighter, cleaner, and easier to manage. It is designed to work beautifully for modern cat homes, with performance you can feel from day one.
