My Life with Cats: A Journey of Care, Change and Coming Full Circle
Cats have always been part of my life story - through every chapter, change, and choice. From childhood to clinic, they’ve brought comfort, purpose, and perspective. It’s no surprise that they became the thread connecting each chapter of my life - even the ones that seemed, at first, completely unrelated.
🐾 Chapter One: The Cat-Loving Vet
I graduated from Sydney University in 2002 and stepped into the veterinary world with a love for animals - especially cats that ran deep. Over the years, I worked in clinics, built strong client relationships, and had the privilege of guiding families through every stage of their pet’s life. Cats, in particular, fascinated me. Their quiet sensitivity, their resilience, their subtle ways of communicating, they became my favourite patients.
🎨 Chapter Two: A Detour into Design & Local Change
After years in clinic practice, I took a break and explored other passions : interior design and local politics. It may seem like a detour, but these experiences taught me so much about aesthetics, communication, leadership, and community. I learned how to advocate, how to listen, and how to build systems that truly support people. All of which, as it turns out, are just as essential in animal care and business-building.
🕊️ Chapter Three: End-of-Life Care with Heart
One of the most meaningful roles I’ve held has been offering peaceful, in-home euthanasia and palliative care for cats and dogs. It’s sacred work, helping families say goodbye with compassion and love. I also began mentoring other vets, vet nurses, and support staff on how to provide emotionally intelligent, compassionate end-of-life care. It’s the kind of work that changes you. It deepened my understanding of what care really means - and that stayed with me.
😻 Chapter Four: Eight Cats and One Big Idea
Then came the real catalyst: fostering two pregnant rescue cats. Overnight, I was a mum to eight cats. The experience was beautiful, chaotic, and overwhelming - but also deeply illuminating. The environmental impact of traditional cat litter shocked me. I was using so much of it - dusty, heavy, plastic-packaged, and destined for landfill. I kept thinking: "Surely there’s a better way."

So I created one. Best Fur Forward was born from everything I’d learned, as a Vet, a foster mum, a designer, a community advocate, and a lifelong cat lover. Our MATCHA clumping tofu litter is:
